After reading Darrius' recent blog post there are parts of it I agree with and other parts I do not. One thing Darrius didn't take into consideration is that until the day of the meeting, I had stopped writing about Amanda. In fact it had been 6 days since I blogged about the incident. I suppose Darrius missed that when he said "Neither of them is acting like responsible adults … and neither of them seems able to rise back to the level of adult either."
If Darrius had read the minutes, it was not I who instigated the chain of events that set the tone for the meeting, it was Amanda. A community manager should know better than to bring something personal into a group meeting. This has been my argument since the beginning, Amanda is not qualified for the position of a community manager. Her PR skills are seriously lacking. A manger shouldn't threaten someone before a meeting even begins. Furthermore, why was it done in public when an IM would have sufficed.
Darrius calls our disagreement "a personal vendetta" an over-used cliché people use when they aren't privy to all the facts. If I added up all the people who use the term personal vendetta, I must have at least 100 of them. Is every disagreement a personal vendetta to these people? When someone is wronged and takes legal action to right the injustice, is that a personal vendetta or is it a course of action to reverse an inappropriate judgment?
I don't mind Darrius saying "Suspiria Finucane has a long history of stating things in a brash, almost abusive manner". First, I would like to ask, what long history? A year? Second, it's his Western POV and I can accept the fact his cultural experience may be limited. Many other people disagree with his assessment as my blog stats and 5 week stint on Twitter have proven.
I've said this before and it merits repeating. This dispute is not about me. It's for everyone who participates in the Second Life forum. Fighting for justice and equality is a dirty job and the meek need not apply. It's my account on the line with all of my actions, no one else is in jeopardy. If I lose my account, so be it. At least I know I tried my best to do what was right and not succumb to peer pressure or corporate mandate by someone unjustly handing out punishment.
In closing I will only say that unless something like this happens to you, the reader, personally, and you know all the facts, reserve judgment until you can fully understand the circumstances.
PS Darrius, if you are going to comment on a blog, the least you can do is link it so the readers can see both sides of the story. A one sided-POV convinces no one. BTW you had the wrong person in the opposite corner. Responsibility lies directly in the hands of a manger not the underlings.
